Travis Konecny Bio
Konecny grew up dominating minor hockey in the Toronto area, including a minor-midget season (2012-13) when he scored 114 points (53 goals, 61 assists) in 54 games.
Ottawa then made him the No. 1 pick in the 2013 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection Draft. Turning 17 during the 2013-14 season, Konecny led Ottawa with 70 points (26 goals, 44 assists), led all first year OHL players in goals and points and was named the league’s top rookie. He finished the season by helping Canada place third at the 2014 IIHF World Under-18 Championship.
The following season he was named Ottawa’s captain. A late-season upper-body injury limited him to 60 games, but NHL scouts were enamored by his skating and determination to get to the hard areas of the ice, and the Flyers selected him with the No. 24 pick of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Konecny returned to Ottawa for the 2015-16 season but was traded to Sarnia. He scored 56 points (23 goals, 33 assists) in 31 games but a shoulder injury limited him to two playoff games.
He was 19 when he made the Flyers opening-night roster for the 2016-17 season. In his first NHL game, at the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 14, 2016, Konecny had two assists in a 4-2 victory.
He had at least one point in four of his first five games and scored his first NHL goal Oct. 25 against the Buffalo Sabres.
Konecny finished the season with 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) in 70 games, the most points by a Flyers rookie forward since Matt Read had 47 in 2011-12. He scored 24 goals in each of the next two seasons, then was selected to play in the 2020 NHL All-Star Game after scoring 17 goals in his first 46 games.
